Too Deadly celebration of culture

The diversity and multi-cultural identity of the South West was celebrated on Friday at the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries’ Too Deadly Family Fun Day.

More than 200 people attended the free event to learn about the different arts and culture of the Noongar community in a range of creative experiences.

There were many activities on the day including acting workshops by Lynette Narkle from The Sapphires, a community art project, face painting, cooking displays, community stalls and South West Aboriginal Medical Service health checks.

There was also a special performance by Jarred Wall of Jake and the Cowboys, and Kwobidak Yorgas Modelling.

A special moment was a welcome to country dance performed by Ryan Bennell and Leigh Dann with Troy Bennell on the didgeridoo.

Bunbury Regional Art Galleries’ audience development officer Claire Pendrigh Elliot said the event was a big success.

“We hope the people who attended took a lot away from the day, ” she said.

“It was a really multi-cultural event; it promoted all things to do with aboriginal art and culture in the region.

“We have amazing art work from the day which we will keep and hopefully use to promote an event for next year.”
