It the start of Show season, with the Bull and Barrell at Darndanup the highlight of the weekend. Here's our Top 10 things to do this week.

1. Bull and Barrel Festival

The 11th annual Bull and Barrel Festival takes place this Saturday and will feature Scitech, the Perth Highland Pipe Band and a sand sculptor recreating Wizard of Oz characters. The theme this year is Over the Rainbow and the free festival will feature a colourful street procession including an array of characters from popular fantasy adventure film The Wizard of Oz. There will be performance duo Dream State Circus, magicians, an art exhibition, the Ferguson Valley wine and beer marquee and will conclude with the traditional burning of a Russell Sheridan-created bull. 2. Surf to Surf

The Surf to Surf Fun Run is back for another year with great prizes for individuals and teams in the 5km or 10km run and 5km walk. The fun run will take place this Sunday and is one of the City of Bunbury Surf Life Saving Club’s biggest annual fundraisers. For more information go to www.bunburyslsc.com.au.

3. Hook a fish

Enable is holding a fishing competition and the community are invited to get involved. There are trophies and prizes for the biggest fish, the ugliest fish and the most blowies caught. The competition will be held in the Leschenault Inlet, Koombana Bay and down towards The Cut. Registration is at 6am at Sykes Reserve with the weigh-in at 11am.

4. Hare Brain

Perth's Spare Parts Puppet Theatre is heading to Bunbury tomorrow and Thursday with the hilarious Hare Brain. Gentle Lucy, a cleaning lady, and Harriet, a fastpaced marketing executive, must race against time to find the perfect story to fit the perfect toy and all before the sunset! Inspired by Aesop’s fable The Tortoise and the Hare, Hare Brain explores themes of difference and acceptance, left brain versus right brain thinking, friendship, community and technology, imagination and play. 5. Fire, fibre and fine arts

A Fire, Fibre and Fine Arts Exhibition will be held at the Stirling Street Arts Centre from Friday to Sunday this week. The official opening will be held at 6.30pm on Friday with wine, cheese and entertainment. The “Art to Wear” fashion parade will be on show on Saturday from 2pm, followed by afternoon tea and entertainment. The event is a collection of more than 17 different art forms and is open from 10am to 4pm each day. For more information contact 9791 1256.

6. Get fit and fundraise

For a gold coin donation take part in a one-hour boot camp session at Bunbury’s Back Beach with Benn “Sarge” Stephens every Thursday at 5.45pm. All money raised will go to Tenderfeet, a charity which supports education in Nairobi, Kenya to buy a new engine for an orphanage’s bus. For more information contact 0429 311 634.

7. Men of Song

The Bunbury Men of Song will premiere a brand new song from renowned composer Paul Jarman this Sunday at the Koombana Bay Sailing Club at 3pm. The singers will perform new and old songs alongside Jarman who will conduct part of the performance. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for concession and $10 for children. 8. Nordic walking

Nordic walking is as effective as jogging and as gentle as walking and is available in Bunbury thanks to the Healthy Communities Initiative. The group meets every Thursday from 9.30am to 10.30am and the location of the walk changes each week. It costs $5 to take part, which covers pole hire and a monthly morning tea. 9. Craft activity

Keep the children entertained these school holidays with craft sessions at the Australind Shopping Centre. From tomorrow, kids can get creative making their own colourful fish using everyday materials in our ocean-themed activity centre at the Australind Shopping Centre. The craft sessions will run from 11am to 2pm until this Saturday.

10. Iluka visions

The annual exhibition of art from South West students continues to provide professional development opportunities for young, emerging artists. Students in Years 8 to 12 submitted more than 500 works of all mediums for consideration. Through a rigorous selection process, the panel of six teachers have narrowed it down to 80 best works. Iluka Visions 2013 is at the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries, open daily from 10am to 4pm, until November 24. Entry is free.
