The much anticipated second instalment of the Hunger Games trilogy, Catching Fire, opens and on Sunday, get ready for Christmas in the City of Bunbury Christmas Lantern Festival. What's on your list?

1. Festive carnival

Activities and entertainment for the whole family will be provided from 3pm to 8.30pm on Sunday at Bicentennial Square with face painting, sand art workshops, pony rides and the magic Christmas Lantern Festival. After 4pm a family concert starts with Divalicious, SPLAT!, kids cabaret, Deb ‘Spoons’ Perry, Laloospy and Christmas Dolls. For more information contact Carmel on 9792 7139.

2. Sprintcar Series

The Quit Bunbury Speedway comes to life with round two of the Southern Thunder Sprintcar Series and round four of the AHG Sprintcar Series on Saturday. Myalup missile Jamie Maiolo finished third in round one of the Southern Thunder series earlier this month and hopes to build on that form as he attempts to narrow Luke Dillon’s lead in the championship. Gates open at 4pm with racing from 6.30pm. Tickets are $30 for adults, $10 for kids (3-12) and $25 for concession card holders.

3. British India

British India’s new album, Controller, has seen the Melbourne four-piece back at the height of their game. On Thursday the indierockers will play at the Prince of Wales, performing tunes from their new album as part of their Blinded single tour. To buy tickets visit www.oztix.com.au.

4. Binningup Fair

Binningup Community Association hosts its annual family event on Saturday featuring plenty of fun activities for all ages. For the children there will be face painting, bouncy castle, the Lions’ train, bumper balls, merry-go-round and bungy trampoline, as well as bike decorating and colouring-in competitions. For adults there will plenty of stalls offering plants, gifts, clothes and food. The free fair starts at 10am and finishes at 3pm.

5. Light up Kingston

Celebrate the start of the festive season with a community concert to mark the switching on of the Christmas lights this Saturday in Kingston. Have a photo with Mr and Mrs Christmas while being entertained by dancers, carols and plenty of market stalls. Light Up Kingston is at the Kingston amphitheatre, from 3pm to 7pm. 6. Vocal Fusion

Vocal Fusion is proud to present a Christmas concert at Edith Cowan University on Sunday at 2pm. There is something for everyone, from contemporary to traditional and everything in between, plus delightful performances from the talented Bunbury Catholic College choir and the South West Performing Arts Studio. Trio Ishuni will also be there with their unique blend and sound. Admission includes afternoon tea. Pre-sale tickets cost $15 for adults or $10 student/concession, available from Central News Bunbury or phone 0400 276 353. Tickets can also be bought at the door for $20/$15. Entry is free for children under 12.

7. Hunger Games

Don't miss the second instalment of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, screening at Grand Cinemas Bunbury this week. The film follows Katniss, Jennifer Lawrence, Peeta and Josh Hutcherson as they face the aftermath of Hunger Games. The pair find out that the president is angry with them for breaking the rules, allowing them both to win. In order for their families not to be punished, they have to prove to him that they’re really in love.

8. Craft fair

More than 70 craft stalls including handcrafted Christmas presents and local art will be on sale at Stirling Street Arts Centre, Stirling Street, Bunbury from 10am to 3pm on Sunday. For more information call 97911256.

9. Picnic in the park

Embrace cultural diversity, understanding and friendship while helping those affected by typhoon Haiyan on Saturday at the Bunbury Wildlife Park. The Bunbury Multicultural Group has invited the community to join its annual picnic which celebrates the work of the group’s volunteers and will also be collecting for victims of the devastating typhoon. Bring lunch and a blanket to the Bunbury Wildlife Park from 11am.

10. Country music

The Bunbury Country Music Club will hold a club night with Midway at the South West Italian Club on Friday. Get down and listen to some soothing country tunes or kick your feet up and dance a storm to some gems. The evening starts at 8pm. For more information go to www.bunburycountrymusicclub.com.
