1 Speedway
Sprintcar action hits Coates Hire Bunbury Speedway on Boxing Day with the Southern Thunder Sprintcar Series. Gates open at 4pm with time trials from 6pm and racing at 6.30pm. There will be support from wingless sprints, street sedans and junior sedans. Tickets are $30 for adults, $25 for teens/concession, $10 for children and $75 for a family of four. Pre-sale tickets are available from 7 Stone Street, Bunbury.
2 Big gig
Looking to head out on the town on Christmas Eve? Make sure you head by the Prince of Wales Hotel to catch two great live bands. Taking to the stage on the night will be Louis and the Honkytonk, as well as the Denny Haines Band. Entry to this great Christmas Eve gig is free.
3 Happy Feet 2
Take the children to Grand Cinemas on Boxing Day for some post-Christmas fun with Happy Feet 2. Mumble’s son Erik is struggling to realise his talents in the emperor penguin world. Meanwhile, Mumble and his family and friends discover a new threat to their home, one that will make everyone work— and dance —together to save them. The film stars the voices of Elijah Wood, Robin Williams, Brad Pitt, Hank Azaria, Matt Damon and Pink.
4 Festive craft
If you have bored children aged between four and seven at home, head down to Bunbury City Library on Friday at 10.30am and give them the opportunity to join in some crafty Christmas fun. Held with Wendy, the theme of the workshop is Bouncing Spiders. Registration is essential, so call 9792 7190 for more information.
5 Racing
Head down to Bunbury Turf Club today and catch some great pre-Christmas racing action. Gates open at 11am with race times to be released closer to the date. The day is being sponsored by Scott Park Homes.
6 Dance party
Teenagers aged between 14 and 18 can head to Exit Nightclub tomorrow night for the Fusion Ultimate Dance Party. The event runs from 6pm to 9pm and is sure to provide some great fun and entertainment for young ones these school holidays.
7 Tower Heist
Funnymen Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy team up on the big screen in Tower Heist. When a group of hard working guys find out they’ve fallen victim to a wealthy businessman’s scheme, they conspire to rob his high-rise residence. The film also stars Matthew Broderick and Casey Affleck. Catch it when it opens at Grand Cinemas Bunbury on Boxing Day.
8 Shots Fired
Former Bunbury rockers Shots Fired are heading back to town for a gig at the Prince of Wales Hotel on Friday night. Having relocated to Melbourne last year, the band takes its influence from legendary rock bands such as Kiss, AC/DC and Iron Maiden. Don’t miss the band when they take to the stage at the Prince at 9.30pm.
9 Quilt display
If you are heading down Harvey way this week, make sure to schedule a stop at Vineyard 28 to view the winery’s annual quilt exhibition. There is more than 30 quilts on display and plenty of gifts ideas. While you are there, why not have a taste of the winery’s delicious wines as well. The exhibition runs until Friday and is open from 10am to 5pm at the winery’s cellar door at 270 Bagieau Road, West Harvey.
10 War Horse
Directed by Steven Spielberg, War Horse follows a young man named Albert and his horse, Joey. Their bond is broken when Joey is sold to the cavalry and sent to the trenches of World War I. Despite being too young to enlist, Albert heads to France to save his friend. War Horse opens at Grand Cinemas on Boxing Day.
