Movie blockbuster 'Gone Girl' is released tomorrow, but there are plenty of other cool events on this week which will keep you right here in the South West.
1. Health day
Pay a visit to Bunbury's Edith Cowan University on Wednesday for the Drug Aware Community Mental Health Day. The drug and alcohol free event will include music, art, dance, workshops and much more. The event runs from 10am until 2pm.
2. Catch a movie
Head to Bunbury Grand Cinemas to see the latest blockbuster release, Gone Girl. Based upon the global bestseller by Gillian Flynn, the movie is directed by David Fincher. On the occasion of his fifth wedding anniversary, Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) reports that his beautiful wife, Amy (Rosamund Pike), has gone missing. Under pressure from the police and a growing media frenzy, Nick's portrait of a blissful union begins to crumble.
3. The Night Zoo
Enjoy the Spare Parts Puppet Theatre's production, The Night Zoo, today at 1pm or 6pm. This heart-warming production reminds its audience of the importance of companionship and the joy that can come from making friends with animals. 4. Oktoberfest
Celebrate Oktoberfest at the Parks Tavern on Saturday. From noon to 5pm, the tavern will host the event which includes a German-style buffet, music and plenty of fun and games. There will be prizes for the best dressed. Tickets are available at Parks Tavern or call 9792 4566.
5. Bull and Barrel
Join in this year's Bull and Barrel Festival on Saturday from 10am. Held in Dardanup, the 12th festival's theme is Celebrating the World. This popular event showcases local wine and produce and has plenty of entertainment including goat races and carnival rides. The night activities begin at 5pm, culminating in the traditional burning of the bull. Entry is free.
6. Kostroma
Watch the world-renowned Russian National Dance company, Kostroma as they perform their spectacular and beautiful evocation in dance of ancient Russian culture. The mesmerising event unites centuries of dramatic musical and dance tradition. Catch the performance at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre on Friday night at 7.30pm. 7. Catch a band
Rock out to Tasmanian punk band Luca Brasi at the Prince of Wales Hotel on Saturday night. Formed in 2009, the band is known for its melodic and hard-hitting punk rock sound. Luca Brasi released their second album earlier this year and have been supporting Violent Soho on the second leg of their Australian Tour.
8. Dave Hughes
Have a laugh at BREC on Saturday night when one of Australia's favourite comedians, Dave Hughes, hits the stage. On his Pointless tour, Hughesy has been making people laugh around the world and recently performed at Montreal's Just for Laughs Festival, Edinburgh Fringe Festival and London's West End. 9. Bimblebox
See the latest exhibition Bimblebox at Bunbury Regional Art Galleries. Bimblebox is a semi-arid nature reserve in remote central Queensland under threat from coal mining. Eleven artists spent 10 days on the reserve looking, documenting, drawing and recording what they found there. The exhibition includes installation, sculpture, painting, indigenous art, digital storytelling and soundscapes.
10. Cricket opener
Cheer on your cricket team this weekend as the Bunbury and Districts Cricket Association’s season gets under way.
