Visit forges friendships
Newton Moore Senior High School hosted a group of 20 students from Singapore Chinese Girls School for a five-day sustainability themed visit last week.
The girls, all from Year 9 and 10, arrived last Monday and spent the day diving with dolphins before attending a lecture on environmental conservation at ECU South West.
On Tuesday they were kept occupied with dolphin and mangrove research projects before heading to Wharncliff Hill near Margaret River for a camp.
The girls were joined on the camp by Newton Moore’s Year 11 biology students.
The Singaporeans returned home on Friday but not before building some life-long friendships.
“This is the third year we’ve hosted students from Singapore Chinese Girls School and by the time the week is over they never want to leave,” Newton Moore head of science Lorraine Ellis said.
“Being exposed to a different culture and way of life is a fantastic experience for both sets of students.
“It’s also especially beneficial to our biology students because they have to teach what they’ve been learning to their visitors, which helps to reinforce their knowledge.”
