Wait haunts police after Collie clash
A Collie policewoman has been left with a black eye, swelling, scratches and a three-month wait for blood tests after being attacked last week.
First Class Const. Julie Hollemans said she and her partner First Class Const.
Kellie Carder were attending a domestic disturbance on Sunday, October 23 about 7pm when she was allegedly set upon by a 25-year-old Collie woman.
‘‘When we got there, it was quite heated,’’ First Class Const. Hollemans said.
‘‘One of the family members was quite aggressive towards us and just turned on us.’’
She said they had to get the woman out of the house because they needed to attend to another woman who was lying on the floor bleeding.
‘‘I had one arm and Kellie had the other and when we were taking her out the house, she broke free and started swinging punches everywhere and she copped me one in the face so I got a black eye out of it, scratches on the neck, a bruised ear.’’
First Class Const. Hollemans said she had to go onto the front verandah after she was hit because she could not see properly out of her right eye for about 15 seconds.
During that time, the 25-year-old woman escaped in her car.
‘‘The woman has done a runner and while we were arresting her sister, because she assaulted police as well, she has come running towards us.
‘‘Then she’s come back and tackled me from behind and threw punches again,’’ First Class Const. Hollemans said.
First Class Const. Carder then tasered the 25-year-old woman.
‘‘We finally got her into custody and when we got her in the back of the van, she spat in my face as well,’’ First Class Const. Hollemans said.
She said that she had never been assaulted or attacked during her seven-year career with the police.
‘‘People don’t realise that it doesn’t just impact on me, it impacts on my whole family because I’ve got to have blood tests now, so my poor husband, things have to be planned.’’
The 25-year-old woman has been remanded in custody and will appear in the Perth Magistrate’s Court on November 16 charged with assaulting police.
