What kids want for Christmas: See what is topping the wish lists of South West children

The consensus is in on what South West children want this Christmas. On behalf of parents, aunties and uncles, the South Western Times have got to the bottom of what youngsters want to see under the tree this holiday season. Taking to the centre of the action — the toy aisle at K-mart — the Times found some things never go out of trend. Zyva Hasan Ali, 3, wants a Barbie Tent, while Nina Tucker, 8, had a classic request: a puppy. Lachlan Smith, 11, is hoping Santa brings an X-Box, while Grace Jones, 15, is wishing for a new Kindle. Maddison Briggs, 8, wanted something she could do with her older siblings. “I’d like some Lego to build with my big brother on Christmas day,” she said. The Grant siblings Dana, 6, and Ruben, 11, were on trend with their top requests, wanting slime-making kits and the extremely popular Bluey Treehouse set. Arabelle Alpart, 6, wants a LOL Surprise doll, while Amelia Henderson, also 6, wanted a Magic Mixie. These are arguably the hottest toys of the past two years. Magic Mixie works in a similar way to LOL Surprise dolls in that they rely on the gacha system. The gacha system is a gaming and toy trend which has been criticised for its addictiveness and similarity to gambling games, relying on collectables which come in sets — older hands might recognise this from collecting Pokemon or AFL trading cards. Williams brothers Harry, 3, Archie, 4, Charlie, 6, and Ollie, 8, all wanted similar things for Christmas. “Glowing monster trucks,” two of the boys said. The consensus was also split between an action figure of Miles Morales, the lead character in the mega-popular Spiderverse films, or candy canes. Eldest brother Ollie simply wanted some new sport equipment. “A goal would be nice. I’ve got a soccer ball but no goal,” he said.
