‘Wonder teacher’ retires after 45 years

Beloved Carey Park Primary School teacher Lyn Blurton called time on her 45-year run in the profession on Friday.

Mrs Blurton’s career began in her hometown of Kalgoorlie, but the 71-year-old has spent time in schools across the State, including Albany, Broome and Port Hedland.

Carey Park Primary School has been her home for the past 16 years and she has also spent time at other primary schools, including Picton, Adam Road and South Bunbury.

Mrs Blurton said her favourite part of the job was watching the progress her students made in the school year.

“I like working with kids who struggle,” she said.

“Seeing where they are at the start of the year and how far they’ve come by the end of the year.”

After celebrating her retirement with a party on Friday night, Mrs Blurton said she was looking forward to visiting the friends she had made around the State.

“I’ve worked with some fabulous people who often don’t get the credit they deserve working in the public sector, ” she said.

Carey Park Primary School principal Peter Rigden said Mrs Blurton had made an impact on teachers and students.

“She’s a wonder teacher, incredibly talented and gives wonderful support to staff,” he said.
