Wooden spoon danger for Slammers

The Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers men’s side are in danger of collecting a third straight SBL wooden spoon after dual losses at the weekend.

Only percentage is keeping the SouthWest side off the base of the ladder ahead of this weekend’s final round of fixtures.

On Friday night, the Slammers were out-gunned from the three-point line by last-placed Rockingham at the Eaton Recreation Centre.

The Flames shot at 50 per cent from outside the arc, landing 19 bombs in their 121-90 victory.

Not even a mammoth 35-point haul from Senario Hillman could save the Slammers, who led by two points at halftime but fell away early in the last quarter.

Rockingham’s Trent Gerovich and Percell Coles both nailed five triples while Beau Samuelson and Ryan Jeffrey both scored four.

Coles finished the night with 28 points while Samuelson had 24 points and James Booyer scored 21 points and 17 rebounds.

For the SouthWest side, captain Trent Worthington (25 points) and new recruit Buster Perkins (26 points) had an impact. Veteran Lee Smith brought down 12 rebounds.

Meanwhile, leading 57-49 at half-time at Kalamunda’s Ray Owen Sports Centre on Saturday night the Slammers were left to rue a disappointing second half on their way to a 102-96 defeat at the hands of the Eastern Suns.

Hillman scored 38 points while Nat van Dijk scored 19 points.

Kalamunda’s Lee Roberts dominated with 31 points and 22 rebounds.
