Woolworths reveals plan for Dalyellup shopping centre

Dalyellup could boast a shopping centre by early 2015 after a multi-million dollar development application was lodged with the Capel Shire Council last month.

Retail giant Woolworths has bought about 2.2 hectares of land between Norton Promenade and Parade Road South and the development application includes plans for a 4000sq m supermarket, 15 speciality stores and parking for 329 cars.

Capel chief executive officer Paul Sheedy said the proposed development was good news for not just Dalyellup but for the entire shire.

“The council is delighted that an application has now been lodged and an estimated completion date given,” he said.

“It provides the council and the community with some certainty that it is now proceeding and the community can look forward to having their own shopping facilities by early 2015.”

“The shopping centre gives a further boost to the fast growing estate at Dalyellup, provides a shopping opportunity for residents south of Dalyellup other than travelling into Bunbury, further boosts the Shire of Capel’s sustainability, and increases the diversity of facilities to shire residents.”

Mr Sheedy said the development application was under review by the South West Development Assessment Panel.

“Council received the planning application on June 28 but because the proposed development is estimated at $13.8 million it will not be considered by council but by the South West DAP after receiving a report from council staff.

“The DAP committee is required to consider the application within 60 days of the council originally receiving it, by August 28.”

Satterley Property Group chief executive Nigel Satterley said the new district centre would become one of Dalyellup’s main activity hubs.

“Our aim is to create a vibrant and sustainable centre with a unique urban village character,” he said.

“When fully complete, the district centre will provide shopping, commercial and social facilities to the 10,000 residents already living at Dalyellup.”
