Bunbury Senior High School duo Zaccary Molloy Mencshelyi and Karen Bromley were among five South West public school students in the prestigious 99 Club when the Western Australian Certificate of Education results were announced late last week.

Mr Molloy Mencshelyi and Miss Bromley were head boy and girl espectively in their final year of high school and have known each other since pre-primary.

Miss Bromley achieved the highest ATAR score in the South West with 99.8 and said the result was a dream come true.

"We put in so much hard work throughout the year and have had so much support from people," she said.

"To be able to get these really good results was incredible.

"I was so nervous, but when I finally saw the results it was such a relief."

Both students plan to attend the University of Western Australia next year, with Mr Molloy Mencshelyi accepted to study physics and philosophy, and Miss Bromley hoping to get into medicine.

Mr Molloy Mencshelyi said his outstanding ATAR result of 99.5 was reward for consistent effort during his time at school.

"It comes down to how hard you’ve been trying throughout your whole life," he said.

"It’s a bit difficult to just start putting in the effort in Year 11 and 12."

Other South West public school students to achieve results in the top 0.5 per cent were Jacinta Shah of ustralind Senior HighSchool (99.65), Sheldon Scott of Newton Moore Senior High School (99.4) and Jason Chan of Australind Senior High School (99.05).

It was a great year for public schools in WA, with a record 114 students earning a place in the 99 Club.
