Community gardeners, cabbage patch caretakers and tomato trimmers are encouraged to throw in their trowels to take advantage of the State Government’s latest round of Community Garden Grants.

Grants up to $10,000 will be available for community organisations and local governments after the government boosted this year’s grants pool from $100,000 to $300,000.

Any community organisations or local governments that support the establishment or development of sustainable community gardens across WA will be eligible.

The funds can be used to improve community gardens in a range of ways, from buying garden equipment to investing in new plants or training up the community.

Community Services Minister Sabine Winton said she was proud to see the funding increase this year as it will ensure more communities can benefits provided by farming.

“Community gardening is a great way for people to become active and develop relationships with like-minded people,” she said.

“It connects people with the healthy produce that they grow, fosters sustainable practices like composting, and encourages the development of new skills.

“I encourage all eligible community organisations and Local Government Authorities to consider applying for these grants.”
