Aces Sky have returned from the Bunbury Senior Basketball League’s mid-season break without missing a beat and continued their undefeated streak, beating Tornadoes Black by 28 points.

Aces Sky went head-to-head against Tornadoes Black at the South West Sports Centre on Tuesday in the first round of the BSBL’s women’s competition since the mid-season break.

Despite Tornadoes Black managing to score first via Bree Chalk, Aces Sky were quick to fight back and take the lead with shots by Tiahna Sears.

As Aces Sky established dominance with their early lead and strong defensive pressure, Tornadoes Black fought hard in a bid to keep up through rebounds by Javene Fitch and strong driving by Skye Palmer.

However, Aces Sky pulled away late to lead 28-18 at quarter-time.

Although Tornadoes Black started strong in the second quarter, Aces Sky continued swarming them with their high-pressure defensive approach.

Wayward shots soon began costing Tornadoes Black a chance to make an early comeback, with Sears continuing to help Aces Sky pull away.

But Chalk soon became a beacon of hope for Tornadoes Black through her strong driving and making a number of baskets to bring down the margin.

Holly Bilcich soon stepped up with a number of late shots and an impressive steal, but Aces Sky held on to lead 50-32 at half-time.

Following the main break, the contest began to pick up intensity as Aces Sky looked to maintain their lead while Tornadoes Black tried shaving the margin down.

As Fitch made several baskets, it seemed Aces Sky hit a snag with a number of missed shots but maintained a strong defence via Abbey Hall and Christina Boag.

However, Aces Sky held on to lead 71-53 at the final change.

In the final quarter Aces Sky continued to pull away to seal the win, despite being rocked late with Molly Wicks taken off the court with an ankle injury.

Despite Tornadoes Black’s best efforts, including another strong showing by Chalk, Aces Sky were just too good, winning 96-68.

Meanwhile, Aces Navy pulled off a big win over Eaton Eagles, defeating them 93-42, while Tornadoes Red had the bye.
