Bulls Grey will be looking to keep a fairytale run through the Bunbury Senior Basketball League men’s A-grade finals alive when they come up against Tornadoes Red in the preliminary final at South West Sports Centre on Friday night.

Grey — a third Bulls side only assembled at the start of the season — finished the regular season in fifth with a 7-5 win-loss record before winning two finals thrillers, beating Tornadoes Black by three points in the elimination final and ending the season of reigning champions Bulls Maroon with a one-point victory in the semifinal.

Red beat Maroon by five points in the first qualifying final but will enter the preliminary final on the back of a bruising 53-point loss to ladder-leaders Bulls Gold in the second qualifying final.

The two teams split their games in the regular season, with Grey thumping Red by 40 points in round three but Red responding with a 20-point win in round 12.

The women’s preliminary final will see Tornadoes Red come up against Aces Sky for the right to play reigning champions Tornadoes Black in next week’s grand final.

Both Tornadoes sides have largely been a class above the rest of the competition this season but Sky will enter the game with plenty of confidence, having pushed Red all the way to the final buzzer in a three-point defeat in round 13 and with a one-point win over the same opponent to their credit in round three.

Red went down to their Tornadoes compatriots by six points in the qualifying final but entered the finals on a five-game winning streak which included the win over Sky.

Both games tip off at 7pm.
