City of Bunbury to hold public community meeting to inform locals of the repurposing of the Withers library

The City of Bunbury is holding an information session for the community about the possible repurposing of the Withers library into a Foodbank WA premises. Bunbury City council supported Foodbank’s move from it’s premises in Davenport to the site, allowing both wraparound services and food collection at the bigger 700sqm facility. It is envisioned the Withers hub would also provide education around food security, financial advice and nutrition education along with counselling and social supports. There would also be a book service in the facility in place of the library, and it will house the Bunbury Men’s Shed. The information evening will start at 5.30pm on Thursday January 16 at the Withers library. The City of Bunbury said representatives from Foodbank WA will also be there to answer any questions about the proposed relocation. “We encourage all members of the community to attend and share their insights,” they said. City of Bunbury officers said the Withers library had seen a decrease in visitors over recent years. Only 25 people per day attend, which is 5 per cent of the Bunbury library foot traffic. The public information evening comes just months before the planned renovations are set to begin in April.
