Heartless thief steals sentimental rug

A disheartened Bunbury resident is asking residents to keep an eye out for a Persian rug which was recently stolen from her home.

After losing all of her household belongings in a fire in Perth in the 1970s, Margaret Campbell, pictured, bought a rug which, more than 40 years later, had great personal significance.

“I saw this rug when I was out with my mother in Claremont not too long after the fires,” Ms Campbell said.

“She loved antiques, had excellent taste and quite the liking for Persian carpets.

“I bought the rug and gave it to my mother who later passed it back to me and it has immense personal value to me, in a way that another person could not appreciate.”

On Wednesday, August 26, Ms Campbell returned to her home in South Bunbury with the rug which she just had cleaned in Perth.

She started to take things out of her car put them on her front porch, intending to return immediately, but was distracted by her two dogs and feeling very unwell.

“It was wrapped in brown paper and plastic in the form of a cylinder,” she said.

“All I want is for someone to return it, it has no value for anyone else but me.

“Being retired, if I don’t get this rug back, I will never have another Persian rug again.”
