A South West builder has scored the regional home of the year award for a third time at the Housing Industry Association-CSR Housing Awards.

Busselton-based builder Tallwood Custom Built Homes secured the award for the State’s best regional home, to complement wins in 2023 and 2021.

Competing against 300 of WA’s best home builders, designers, manufacturers and suppliers at an awards ceremony last week, Tallwood’s beachside property in Quindalup stood out.

Alongside the regional home win, the South West builder was also awarded the GreenSmart sustainable home of the year for an eco-barnhouse in Witchcliffe, as well as the lightweight housing of the year award for a timber framed and clad Dunsborough holiday home.

Tallwood founder Alex Campbell said it was “quite the achievement” for the small builder to take away so many accolades.

“This is an acknowledgement of how hard we strive to be the best at what we do,” he said.

“We’re very proud of the sustainable home of the year win.”

Mr Campbell said the eco-home stood out thanks to it’s unique design with the lightweight win a testament to adapting work with a reduction in bricklayers post-COVID.

He said the company had won the top South West home of the year six times, and last year managed to score the overall Statewide prize.

Also recognised at the awards was Caves Road Constructions for the best renovation or addition project of the year for its conversion of a dairy in Cowaramup.

HIA WA executive director Michael McGowan said the range and quality of all entries was testament to the work being delivered by the industry throughout Western Australia.

“The builders, designers, tradespeople in this industry love delivering beautiful quality homes, and despite rising costs and trade shortages, they continue to innovate and excel in producing exceptional outcomes for their clients,” he said.

“All winners and finalists across the State have showcased their ability to deliver the highest quality of homes and service for their clients.”
