Western Australian of the Year Awards return to celebrate the ‘best of the best’ over the past two years

West Aussies are being urged to nominate unsung heroes of the coronavirus pandemic for the Western Australian of the Year Awards, which are returning after a 12 months absence. Last year’s awards were cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions, so WA has two years worth of good deeds to choose from when selecting the “best of the best”. Celebrate WA chair Michael Anghie said he looked forward to West Australians naming worthy peers for the awards, given the unique challenges of the past twelve months. “There are many West Australians who have gone above and beyond over the past two years, and their success should be celebrated by us all,” Mr Anghie said. “Given the difficult year many have had, it is particularly uplifting to hear about the selfless, hardworking and dedicated people right here in Western Australia, and I look forward to hearing their stories told in 2021.” West Australians can either self-nominate or complete the online form on behalf of another person through the online nomination process. The seven award categories include Aboriginal Award, Arts & Culture Award, Business Award, Community Award, Professions Award, Sport Award, and Youth Award. Previous award winners include soccer superstar Samantha Kerr, celebrity photographer Russell James, and author Tim Winton The nominations close on February 26 and finalists will be revealed on April 17.
