Do they have the X factor?

Kate Fielding, BUNBURY HERLADBunbury Herald

A Bunbury couple aim to uncover The X Factor Australia if they are chosen for show's boot camp.

After making it through the Perth auditions, Danny and Shelly Haines last week flew to Melbourne, where they impressed judges James Blunt, Chris Isaak, Guy Sebastian and Dannii Minogue.

Under the stage name Danny & Shelly, they have been performing their "acoustic-rock-pop-folk" music together for four years and have been married for 14.

"We are used to performing in front of thousands of people, but this is different 'cause you're just thrown on stage and the adrenaline kicks in and it's now all just a blur," Mr Haines, 39, said.

The duo received four yeses from the judges at the Melbourne audition but will have to wait to hear if they will make it to the boot camp round.

Mr Haines said the process was "all very top secret".

"We got really good remarks from the judges on the day but you just never know what could happen or if there were other acts better than you," he said.

Mrs Haines, 31, said the couple did not have big plans for a future music career.

"We want to go as far as we can but we're happy to have done what we've already done - so anything past this is a bonus," she said.

Both are no strangers to reality TV after auditioning individually for Australian Idol 10 years ago. Mr Haines made the top 40 and Mrs Haines, who "tagged along as support crew", decided at the last minute to audition for the defunct show.

The couple will find out in the next few weeks if they have been successful.
