Lunctime is for ... bike fun!

Mountain biking might not be the usual choice of lunchtime activity, but it is now an option for the students of Eaton Primary School.

About 300m of track has been installed along a previously unused section of bush on the school's grounds which has proven popular over the Christmas holidays and during the opening weeks of term.

It stemmed from an idea presented to physical education teacher Davin Ogden during a professional development day last year by schools in Busselton with similar tracks.

"It's one more step in our nature play along with our log and tyre playgrounds," Mr Ogden said. "The kids love it and are here on the weekends and after school because it's a safe place to ride."

It was built over three days just before the end of last year and Mr Ogden said one teacher had noticed about 30 children using it during one day of the school holidays.

Students from Years 2 to 6 each have one day per week to ride on the shaded track once they have had their mountain bike and helmet cleared.

Mr Ogden said about 20 students used it each lunch time and the school was looking at grants to extend the track further.
