Mum allegedly stabs daughter in the back

A 51-year-old Carey Park woman has faced court accused of stabbing her daughter in the back with a kitchen knife on Sunday morning.

The woman appeared in the Bunbury Magistrate’s Court yesterday charged with aggravated grievous bodily harm.

The alleged victim, a 26-year-old woman, was flown to Royal Perth Hospital and is in a serious but stable condition.

Police have accused the woman of stabbing her daughter in a Carey Park house about 1.30am.

South West Detectives acting officer-in-charge Dave Beard said it would be alleged the stabbing occurred during an argument over money.

The alleged victim’s lung was punctured in the attack, causing it to fill with blood. She was taken to Perth by the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

Forensic officers were at the house on Sunday investigating the incident.

The alleged offender did not enter a plea to the charge.

Kevin Blurton, representing the accused, asked for his client to be granted bail on a $10,000 personal bond. This was not opposed by the prosecution.

Magistrate Kelvin Fisher agreed to the defence’s request for bail. Bail conditions prohibit her from approaching or attempting to approach the daughter.

The accused will next appear in the Bunbury Magistrate’s Court on August 4. Det-Sen. Sgt Beard said the investigation into the incident was continuing.
