Bunbury Primary School students were excited to be Bunbury's first inner-city children to trial iPads at school as part of its iPad Initiative implemented at the start of the term.

Year 5 students were the trial year group as part of the Bring Your Own Device program, with the iPads being used for a variety of purposes including note-taking, internet research and several educational apps.

Teacher Jodee Whittaker incorporated iPads into the students' daily schoolwork and used them as a tool to enhance their learning.

"It's fantastic, the kids are really excited and engaged," Ms Whittaker said.

"It adds another dimension, not only increasing the learning but increasing the depth of learning.

"We've gone from pencils and paper to photos, videos and internet research."

Following two years of research, deputy principal Franca Dillon was sure the BYOD program would help the students develop skills and become successful 21st century learners.

"I think it's our duty as an educational institution to work with kids to embrace the technology and utilise it," Mrs Dillon said.

"It's a teaching tool that the kids are really engaging with."
