Slammers get off to perfect start (pics)
The Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers had a great start to the season with the side winning all three of its opening weekend games at the Eaton Recreation Centre.
The men began their campaign on Saturday night when the Slammers took on the Geraldton Buccaneers, seeking revenge after the northern side knocked them out of last year's play offs.

After tip-off was delayed by 45 minutes because of a wet court, the Slammers began slowly, with the Buccaneers looking the more fluent team.
But playing-coach Ty Harrelson and his team came out in the second half a different team and took it up to the Buccs in humid conditions, winning 118 to 112.
Imports Brian Voelkel and Tre Nichols had a fantastic introduction to the State Basketball League, with Voelkel staring on debut as he made a triple-double (21 rebounds, 11 assists and 14 points).
Nichols showed off his athleticism on the night, but failed to get momentum on the wet court while still managing 21 points.
The tall Jordan Hickert came off the bench with authority and sunk three three-pointers from as many attempts, while captain Clive Weeden was also impressive.
For the Buccs it was Bennie Lewis who was the star, scoring 43 points in the six-point loss.
Then on Sunday afternoon the Slammers did battle with the Lakeside Lightning and the story was similar to the night before, with the side getting into gear after half-time to take a two-point lead into a 115 to 95 win.
Harrelson was back to his brilliant best, scoring 33 points in a dominant display which also had him score seven baskets from the three-point line.
Voelkel was again a monster on the boards, taking 18 rebounds for the match while also hitting the scoreboard with 19 points.
Jordan Swing for Lakeside Lightning was strong opposition and took it up to the Slammers, scoring 35 points but unfortunately for the tall man, there was little support.
In the women's game on Sunday, the Slammers had a great win taking down the Lightning 77 to 56.
New imports Deonica McCormick and Patricia Bright showed their athleticism and skill, while recruit Kelly Bastow showing her touch from the three-point line.
Bastow (16 points) and Bright (23 points) held off the fighting Lightning to take the win after a tight three quarters.
