SWFL Colts Prelim Final: AMR v Bunbury

Darrel Cockram, BUNBURY HERALDBunbury Herald

Jake Rodgers got Augusta-Margaret River away to a lightning start with a goal just 15 seconds into their colts preliminary final against Bunbury at Hands Oval on Sunday and they never looked back on their way to a 19 point win.

The Hawks proved too strong in a tight last quarter, to book a date with Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault in this year's grand final after the 12.15 (87) to 11.2 (68) victory.

Jack McMahon took a strong mark to start the day, kicking truly for the first of his fourth for the match, with the other three coming through strong body work around the square.

The Hawks' defence was a little undisciplined at this stage and the Bulldogs scored as a result.

Augusta-Margaret River looked to be in control for most of the second term as they repeatedly took the ball away from the stoppages through the good work of Kane Lafontaine and the smooth Mitch Fairclough.

The Hawks appeared to almost claim the win in the third term as they were playing the better football with their bigger bodies having an impact in the marking duel and scrimmages.

The Hawks led by seven points to start the last quarter and they finished comfortably with McMahon and Rodgers adding to their goal tallies.
