SWFL Match Report: S Bunbury v Busselton

Darrel Cockram, BUNBURY HERALDBunbury Herald

South Bunbury displayed their developing brand of football when they matched Busselton all over the ground to lead by eight points at half-time at Hands Oval on Saturday night.

But the Magpies overran the Tigers to win by 24 points, finishing the game 13.12 (90) to 10.6 (66).

Before a disappointing crowd in cold conditions the Tigers were well served by Chris Andrew and Damon Bull on the ball and the likes of Dylan Harper, Brady London, James Kirby and Leigh Conway around the ground.

The Magpies defence, however, was able to withstand the Tigers' pressure with usual systematic clearances and keep the Tigers to six goals for the half with the dynamic Dan McGinlay, Chris Kane, Brent Hall, defenders Tom Howlett, James Price and Lance Lucas prominent.

Up forward though the Magpies were wasteful with only four goals from 11 scoring shots.

McGinlay snapped a beauty while Bailey Sanford chipped in with two clever goals all in the first half of the quarter allowing the Tigers to add two goals late in the term and hence the lead.

The Magpies virtually ended the contest when they added five goals in the first 10 minutes of the third quarter through Brent Snook (two), Hall, Aiden Fraser and Steve Cameron.

While Snook added his third late in the term the Tigers managed to stem the tide with goals to Deakin Stein and Andrews to narrow the gap to 10 points at the final change.

Kane and Hall made sure there would be no Tigers fight back in the last quarter with quick goals, but the Tigers stuck to their task and halved the rest of the quarter.

McGinlay was the clear best on ground, with Kane and Hall supporting him well in a dynamic midfield battle with South Bunbury's developing brigade.

Both teams added a couple of late goals to see the visitors victors by 24 points in a game which likely saw both coaches reasonably happy.
