Top 10 things to do this week ...
1. Anzac services
The historic centenary of Anzac Day will be commemorated with the traditional dawn and morning services on Saturday. Assembly will start at the RSL hall from 5.30am ahead of fall-in at 5.45am and the march for the wreath laying and service at 6am at Bunbury's war memorial. A memorial breakfast will be held from 7am. The daytime service will start with a 10.30am fall-in before the march to the Graham Bricknell Music Shell and the service from 11am.
2. Play for Anzacs
Other Anzac-themed events will take place in Bunbury on Saturday. A play called Under Any Old Gum Tree, which portrays the life of Irish-Australian Victoria Cross winner Martin O'Meara on Anzac Day, will be performed at Waters Edge restaurant. The performance starts at 7pm with tickets costing $60 and including finger food and live music. They can be booked by calling Tom Dillon on 0417 986 298 or 9721 4202. Representatives from the 10th Light Horsemen will be at Bunbury Trotting Club for their Anzac Day race meeting.
3. Hoods headline
Bunbury's biggest music festival will take place on Sunday. A sold-out crowd will pack into Hay Park for Groovin' the Moo for an afternoon and evening of music. Popular acts including Wolfmother, Hilltop Hoods and Charli XCX will take the stage.
4. Comedy double
Head down to Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre on Friday night as comedians Claire Hooper and Cal Wilson join forces for what promises to be an hilarious night of stand-up comedy. Fresh from the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, these two are at the top of their game. Tickets are available through www.bunburyentertainment.com or by calling 1300 661 272.
5. Football action
Carey Park and Busselton meet in what should be a big contest to start round two of the South West Football League season. Their match starts at 3.20pm on Saturday. Three matches start at 2.30pm on Sunday - Augusta-Margaret River v Collie Eagles, Donnybrook v Bunbury and the derby between Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault and Harvey Bulls. Last year's grand finalists Eaton Boomers and South Bunbury meet at 2.30pm on Monday.
6. All-star Avengers
An all-star cast including Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson team up for Avengers: Age of Ultron. The film is a follow-up to the record-breaking 2012 film Avengers and this is sure to be another blockbuster. All the superheroes are put to the test again as they must save the planet against the villainous Ultron in an epic adventure. The film is rated M and opens at Grand Cinemas Bunbury on Thursday.
7. Vulture culture
A vulture culture comedy night will take place at Bunbury's Prince of Wales Hotel tomorrow night. Trevor Crook, who has a big following in the UK, will headline this event, supported by MC Ben Darsow from Adelaide who is performing at this year's Melbourne International Comedy Festival. The show runs from 8.30pm-10.30pm. Tickets are limited and can be bought in advance through www.vultureculture.com.au or on the door.
8. Slammin' action
Sunday afternoon is Slammers time at Eaton Recreation Centre. The Cockburn Cougars travel to the South West for the contest, which will be Slammers' last home game in almost a month. The women's match starts at 4pm ahead of the men's match at 6pm.
9. Premier League
South West Phoenix will host Premier League opposition in the FFA Cup preliminary rounds on Monday. The region's representative soccer side take on Armadale in a knockout match with a place in the State cup quarter-finals for the winner. The match kicks off at 3pm at Payne Park.
10. Lord Forrest
Musical duo Short and Curly will play at the Lord Forrest Hotel's Unwind bar on Friday night. This talented duo will please crowds with a unique fusion of country, blues and folk - combining raw, feisty vocals and perfectly blended harmonies. They will play between 6.30pm-10pm with food specials available.
