Top 10 things to do this week
With the weather turning a bit wintry, we've found plenty of indoorsy (and a couple of outdoorsy) things to do this week.
1. Round 4 football action
Two Bunbury clubs will host Saturday night matches in round four of the South West Football League. Carey Park will meet Bunbury at Kelly Park while South Bunbury hosts Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault at Hands Oval. Both matches start at 6.10pm. At 2.30pm on Sunday, Eaton Boomers host Collie Eagles, Harvey Bulls are at home to Busselton while Augusta-Margaret River clash with Donnybrook.
2. The Beards are back
Beard lovers should head for the Prince of Wales Hotel on Thursday night. Quirky and entertaining, The Beards will be in Bunbury playing songs from their new album, which is of course all about beards. After recording their album, touring overseas and within Australia and picking up a second ARIA nomination, they are back for the Strokin' My Beard Tour. Their show is set to be a memorable night of music and beard appreciation.
3. Sleeping Beauty on stage
Moscow Ballet La Classique comes to BREC tomorrow night with their spectacular masterpiece Sleeping Beauty, ballet's most loved fairytale. Bring the whole family for an evening of spectacular ballet that will capture the imagination, the passion and the magic of Sleeping Beauty, a hugely enjoyable dance spectacular for ballet lovers of all ages. 4. Aspects of Love
A production of Aspects of Love, based on a David Garnett novel and turned into a musical by Andrew Lloyd-Webber, will be performed by Bunbury Musical Comedy Group. This is the first time this musical has been performed by a community theatre group in WA. Its plot revolves around complex and fragile relationships with powerful music and strong characters. The intimate New Lyric Theatre will host this South West production, which has performances at 8pm on Friday and Saturday plus 2pm on Sunday.
5. Family Proms
Family Proms is back at BREC by popular demand on Saturday to provide an afternoon of fun family entertainment not to be missed. Philharmonic South West presents Mozart and his iPhone, a family concert to celebrate Mother's Day. 6. Stadium to host top hockey
Bunbury Hockey Stadium will be alive with South West Hockey League matches this weekend. Marist meet Exies at 6.35pm on Friday in a women's match ahead of Towns-South v Marist in the men's at 8.05pm. Exies play Wests at 3.15pm and Associates clash with Boyanup at 6.15pm on Saturday in the men's league. On Sunday, the women's round wraps up with Towns-South v Boyanup at 3.15pm. Robins and Associates will also meet in a women's match at 12pm on Sunday in Busselton.
7. Age of Adaline
Blake Lively, Michiel Huisman and Harrison Ford star in The Age of Adaline, a tale about being ageless. The film revolves around a young woman (played by Lively) who becomes ageless after an accident. While some people may embrace not getting old, Adaline does not want to reveal her secret and spends her life running away and trying not to fall in love. A moment forces her to make a decision that will change the direction of her life. The film is showing at Grand Cinemas Bunbury.
8. The 26-Storey Treehouse
What are you waiting for? Come on up - they're back. Head down to BREC on Thursday at 4.30pm or 6.30pm to laugh your head off with The 26-Storey Treehouse live on stage. The production is brought to Bunbury by the same team that delivered the hilarious 13-Storey Treehouse last year. 9. Lover's Concerto
Family relationships and the West Coast Eagles are themes of Bunbury Repertory Club's latest production. A Perth playwright and South West director will premiere A Lover's Concerto as a couple, Sally and Harry, enjoy a new relationship in their 60s. A subplot involves protagonist Sally's younger sister Marcia and her husband Eric, who is an avid Eagles supporter. This is the final performance week, with shows at 8pm on Friday and Saturday plus 2pm on Sunday at Eaton's Little Theatre on Pratt Road. 10. Rugby League
Rugby League will be back at the Bunbury Recreation Ground on Saturday afternoon. The region's representative team, South West Warriors, will be at home to South Perth Lions in a match that starts at 2pm. Get down there to support the team in this early season clash.
