Vigil held for Nepalese disaster
More than 60 Bunbury residents have shown their support for those affected by the Nepal earthquake at a vigil on Friday night.
Local Nepalese community members organised the vigil at the Graham Bricknell Memorial Music Shell, where they gathered and lit candles to pay homage.
Vigil organiser Bishwa Mishra said there were about 14 Nepalese families in Bunbury and they had been shocked by the tragedy.
"We're obviously emotionally involved and we've spent a lot of time trying to get in contact with our families and friends over there," he said.
"The vigil was about showing solidarity to them and even though we are not physically there, we want them to know we are here for them."
The 7.8-magnitude earthquake which hit the Himalayan nation on April 25, has claimed more than 7000 lives and left tens of thousands homeless.
Mr Mishra said the vigil was for those in Nepal, but also for those affected in Bunbury.
"We are continuously working and thinking about what else we can do to help," he said.
