Woman, child hospitalised after Qantas flight experiences turbulence

A woman and child have been rushed to hospital after they were injured when their Qantas flight from Sydney to Brisbane experienced some bad turbulence.

A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman confirmed paramedics were called to Brisbane Airport about 3.15pm on Wednesday.

She said three people had been injured while their flight experienced turbulence during its journey north to Queensland.

A woman in her 40s and a child were taken to Prince Charles Hospital, both in a stable conditions.

The spokeswoman said the pair were treated for bruises and lacerations following the flight.

A third person declined to be taken to hospital.

A Qantas spokeswoman said staff were well equipped to ensure customers were safe during bouts of turbulence.

“Our pilots and cabin crew are highly trained to manage a range of on-board events, including turbulence events but we know this would have been very unsettling and we thank customers for their co-operation,’ she said.

It’s understood the three passengers were not wearing seatbelts on-board the QF528 flight despite the seatbelt warning sign being turned on about five minutes before turbulence began.

The flight experienced a turbulence event on its descent into Brisbane because of adverse weather conditions.
