Climate 200 backs Teal independent Kate Hulett with $30k to challenge Labor for Fremantle federal seat

Kate Hulett’s ambition to pivot from WA politics to Canberra has received a financial boost, with a $30,000 donation from Climate-200. The lobby group founded by Simon Holmes a Court put $50,000 towards her campaign to unseat Cook Government Minister Simone McGurk in the seat of Fremantle. Ms Hulett came within 500 votes but ultimately fell short. The Fremantle shop owner, who has spoken out against AUKUS and supported illegal anti-gas protests, said she believes momentum from the State election campaign will favour her new tilt at Federal politics. “Our campaign has received so much engagement, excitement and inspiration,” she said. “This is only the beginning as we continue to escalate our groundbreaking campaign for Fremantle until election day.” Fremantle is the only Labor-held seat in WA that has been targeted by Climate-200, which has also made donations to Curtin MP Kate Chaney and independent campaigns in Moore and Forrest. The initial $30,000 donation to Ms Hullet’s federal campaign is small change for the group that has donated at least $270,000 so far to Ms Chaney’s re-election campaign, plus at least $85,000 to Forrest candidate Sue Chapman and $36,000 to Moore candidate Nathan Barton.
