10 BIG TRADES STILL IN THE WORKS

The AFL trade deadline of 4.30pm (WA time) on Wednesday is fast approaching, with plenty of deals still being hashed out. Which trades will get done and which will fall through?

Tom Barrass

West Coast’s star defender had been considered a certainty to have his wish granted to get to Hawthorn, but Friday’s pick swap between the Hawks and Carlton have complicated matters. Barrass is contracted at the Eagles for another three seasons.

The Richmond match-winner wants to get to Fremantle, and the Dockers have a “really strong” offer on the table, according to Freo’s Peter Bell. Some combination of Fremantle’s picks 10, 11 and 18 will likely get the deal done.

Liam Baker

Baker’s prospective path to West Coast was also made tougher by the Hawks-Blues pick swap, with a move now unlikely to be tied in with Barrass’ impending shift to Hawthorn. Both Baker and the Eagles remain committed to securing a reunion with former coach Andrew McQualter.

Dan Houston

Collingwood appear to be in the driver’s seat, thanks to a reported six-year deal on the table, while North Melbourne also in contention for the two-time All-Australian. But the contracted Houston could also remain at Port Adelaide if the Victorian clubs can’t cough up enough.

Bailey Smith

The Bulldogs star appears destined to get to Geelong, but the Cats may well have to give up more than their top selection at this year’s draft – currently pick 17 – to get a deal across the line.

Clayton Oliver

The midfielder is contracted at Melbourne until 2030, and the Demons have been adamant that he’ll stay in red and blue. But Oliver is reportedly keen to get to the Cats and will remain one of the most talked-about players across the final days of the trade period.

Jack Lukosius

The long-kicking Sun wants to get to Port Adelaide, with the Power likely to have to part ways with a future first-round draft pick in order to secure the move.

Dan Rioli

Gold Coast’s pick six won’t be enough to get the premiership Tiger on the move, with Richmond demanding more for the player who took home their best-and-fairest prize just a fortnight ago.

Mystery surrounds the preference of the 2016 Bulldogs premiership winner, who hasn’t publicly declared he wants out of The Kennel. North Melbourne remain in talks with the Dogs as they continue to chase experience to add to the recruitment of Jack Darling and likely arrival of Luke Parker.

Jake Stringer

Essendon are shopping the 30-year-old and GWS are interested, with the Giants’ pick 56 looming as potentially enough to trigger a shift to a third AFL club.
