West Australian wicket-keeper Josh Inglis has made an overnight dash from Australia’s Test camp to Sydney in time to feature in a Sheffield Shield clash.

National selectors made the call to release the batter immediately after Australia’s evening training session in Adelaide on Thursday, meaning he could take to the field for WA’s final red-ball match before the Big Bash League break.

Inglis has been the reserve batter for the first two Test matches of the season amid a hectic run of cricket where he captained the country’s Twenty20 and one-day international teams against Pakistan.

The 29-year-old has been parachuted into a WA side batting first against New South Wales at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

But it appears he will not keep wicket, with incumbent Joel Curtis maintaining his place in the side.

WA have picked two spinners, with Hamish McKenzie playing just his second first-class match after a season spent battling stress fractures in his back.

That forced a shock call to leave out Joel Paris, with pace duo Lance Morris and Brody Couch preferred.

Cam Bancroft, who finally found some runs in a century against South Australia at Adelaide Oval last week, was dismissed for one by Jack Edwards.
