Fridays will be on the mind of Wildcats supporters this season, with Perth locked in to play three-quarters of their home games in the club’s preferred timeslot this season.

It comes as the Cats are presented with a chance to get their new campaign off to a flying start with a three-match homestand to begin the season, remaining in WA to take on rival powerhouses Sydney and Melbourne after their HoopsFest opener against South East Melbourne.

The NBL’s fixture release will make pleasant reading for most Wildcats fans, with the league ramping up Perth’s presence in their optimal Friday night slot.

John Rillie’s side will play a whopping 11 Friday night games at RAC Arena, a significant increase on their eight such matches from last season and just six from the campaign prior.

Perth also host one Thursday night game and a rare Wednesday night game toward the end of the January school holidays, with just one Saturday evening and one Sunday afternoon slot in WA.

As previously announced, the Wildcats will host the Phoenix on Friday September 20 for the marquee clash of the inaugural HoopsFest, which will see every NBL club play in a ‘Gather Round’ slate of games across RAC Arena and HBF Stadium. The match will effectively mark an extra home game for Perth, helping reduce the club’s travel imbalance compared to rivals.

Sydney face Adelaide in their HoopsFest clash at RAC Arena, and will remain in WA to take on the Wildcats the following week.

Perth will have their traditional six-week hiatus from their home stadium due to the United Cup tennis tournament, with the Cats set for seven consecutive road games in a testing mid-season stretch.

But Wildcats players will be able to spend Christmas and New Year’s Eve in WA, avoiding the league’s two games on each of those dates.

NBL chief executive David Stevenson said the fixture was focused on targeting big crowds through the summer holiday period to build on last season’s momentum.

“Fans are at the forefront of everything we do, and after welcoming more than a million people through the gates for the first time since 1996, we have developed a schedule that is filled with family friendly timeslots, especially through the summer holidays,” he said.

The regular season will wrap up on February 8, 10 days earlier than last season, as the league looks to condense its schedule and avoid significant overlap with the start of the winter football codes.
