Bunbury Bulldogs remain top of the ladder after reeling in fast-starting Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault

Bunbury brothers Jayen and Patrick Farrant put on a show as their side stormed home against Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault on Sunday. The Bulldogs remain top of the ladder by just 2.67 per cent after a strong second half helped them to an impressive 16.8 (104) to 7.16 (58) victory. HBL got the jump on Bunbury in the first term as Jarrod Humphries, Blake Offer and Ty Armitage kicked the first four goals of the game between them. It was one-way traffic for the home side until Dogs’ forward Jayen Farrant’s set-shot sailed through on the quarter-time siren to leave the margin at 19 points. Bunbury came out with a point to prove after their slow start and kicked the first five goals of the second term. The game became heated when Bunbury’s Jethro Barraclough was given a yellow card for a bump on Jonathon Fenwick in the centre square. HBL were able to pin one back but a late goal from Bunbury livewire Jake Symington helped his side to a 7.5 (47) to 5.4 (34) lead at the main break. Both sides had six shots on goal in the third term but HBL’s kicking woes continued as they did not manage a major. Bunbury on the other hand added four goals, two to Jayen Farrant and singles to Patrick Farrant and Symington to lead by 33 points at the last change. The Farrant Show continued as Jayen added one more and Patrick slotted three to give their side a 46-point win. Bunbury coach Jamie Nani said his side could take confidence from the victory heading in to the vital derby clash with South Bunbury next round. “We had a slow start but were outstanding after quarter time,” Nani said. “The boys responded and did what they had to do, so I was happy with that.”
