The Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault women’s side have claimed their first win of the 2022 SWFL season with a clinical on-the-road victory against the competition’s newest side, the Dunsborough Sharks.

Both sides went into the clash winless in 2022, but the Lions proved themself a cut above the Sharks, leading at every break as they went on to win 9.7 (61) to 2.1 (13).

The visitors got the jump on the Dunsborough side and had seven scoring shots in the first quarter but managed only two goals to lead by 16 at quarter time.

The Sharks then kicked their first in the second term, but HBL scored two more of their own to take the margin to 24 at the main break.

The third quarter was both side’s lowest-scoring term as the Lions kicked two straight and Dunsborough did not trouble the scorers.

In the last quarter, HBL kicked three more majors and the Sharks scored their second of the day to huge cheers from the home crowd who were yet to see their team score two goals in a match.

Riley Brine proved to be the biggest X-factor for the Lions as she found plenty of the ball at centre bounces and dominated the clearance count.

Further afield, Katie Wilsonham managed to provide a target for HBL inside 50, taking some strong marks and getting in good positions on her way to kicking four goals.

Pania Kara, Chloe McGill and Ariarn Huston set the standard for the Sharks, scrapping to the end for their side despite the Lions’ scoreboard dominance.

The match was both sides’ highest score for the year to date, HBL having managed just nine points for the season while Dunsborough had scored a single goal.
