Adam Hunter’s emotional funeral service on Thursday included a touching poem - written by the former Eagle - about how much his local club of South Bunbury meant to him.

The 2006 West Coast premiership hero was celebrated at Bunbury’s Hands Oval, with a host of former AFL teammates in attendance.

But it was a 2022 reserves flag with South Bunbury - Hunter’s junior club - that set the scene for a beautiful poem that he penned, adorning the back of the order of service pamphlet.

WHAT SOUTH BUNBURY MEANS TO ME

I was just a little tacker, 7 to be exact

When I put on my brand new footy boots, boy how I was wrapped

I ran out onto that ground, always hoping for a win

For the colours of the red and white, are etched into my skin

34 years later and finally a cup

In good old Hunter fashion, it started with a bust-up.

***

I wouldn’t be where I am today without the red and white

It’s more than just a footy club, one I cherish with all my might

We’re a team of brothers, a second family, a camaraderie of mates

It’s a team of fun, health and fitness, and yes I double all your weights.

***

It’s been an honour and a privilege to be a part of this great team

Being drafted to the AFL, was always my greatest dream

10 years, a cup and a body that’s falling apart

But this club will always be the one I hold closest to my heart.

***

From all the highs and all the lows, from beginning to the end,

I thank each and every one of you,

You’re my family, and my friends.
