West Coast forward Jack Petruccelle has put his hand up for selection with five goals in the WAFL, as he welcomed competition for spots under new Eagles coach Andrew McQualter.

Petruccelle has yet to play a full game at senior level this season, with his one appearance against Brisbane in round two as the sub.

Despite finding himself out of favour and back in the reserves, the 25-year-old said it was a positive spot for the club to be in.

“It’s something we haven’t had for two or three years now,” Petruccelle told The West Australian.

“You always want competition for spots because not only does it make the boys in the AFL play really well, but it makes us a competitive WAFL team.

“You always want the boys to stay healthy and compete hard because we’re all here to win games no matter what level it is. The more availability we have, the more wins we’re going to have.”

Petruccelle, who has played 89 games over eight seasons at West Coast, is confident his side will start to put wins on the board in 2025 when they can get things to click under McQualter.

It comes after the club parted ways with premiership coach Adam Simpson late last season after a more than decade-long tenure.

“It’s exciting. It’s all fresh, it’s all new,” Petruccelle said of the 2025 Eagles.

“With Mini (McQualter) at the head of it all, he’s brought a really fresh outlook into footy for us. A lot of the boys have been here for a long time.

“It’s fast, it’s exciting. When we can start getting it all together and playing exactly the way we want to play, we’re going to surprise some people and win some games.”

Petrucelle kicked a game-high five goals as the Eagles were defeated by East Fremantle by 49 points at The Good Grocer Park on Saturday.

“You always want to play your role and do what you can do for the team. Obviously getting your lick individually is always nice but we’re more after the result,” he said.

Ruckman Matt Flynn also put his hand up for an AFL re-call with a dominant performance, with 51 hit-outs, 27 disposals and two goals in the 20.11 (131) to 12.10 (82) loss.
