GoFundMe Fundraiser launched after devastating fire destroys Willetton community daycare

A beloved Willetton family has been left homeless after a raging inferno severely damaged their house and daycare centre.

Young children at the daycare centre narrowly escaped as the fire took hold of the home.

The Ramasamy family, who ran the daycare from a unit on the property, have been part of the Willetton community for many years.

Such is the love the community has for the family that Olga Darnasia, whose daughter had been attending the daycare, launched a GoFundMe on their behalf.

“Dear friends, family, kind hearted strangers” Ms Darnasia said.

“We are reaching out to ask for your help with the Ramasamy family and the devastating incident that happened on Wednesday, July 31st, 2024.

“In the afternoon around 1pm, their home, which is also a family daycare (where our daughter went to), was destroyed by catastrophic fire.” Ms Darnasia said.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services were called to the scene of the property fire around 12.45pm on Wednesday.

“Our educator, Chandra Ramasamy, is the kindest, warmest person. She treats all the children under her care as her own. She always goes above and beyond to help others.” Ms Darnasia said.

The initial GoFundMe goal has been set for $12,000.

The funds are to secure temporary housing, purchase clothing and necessities, and help rebuild their home.

“Please consider making a donation to help the Ramasamy family recover from this tragedy,” Ms Darnasia said.

Every dollar will go directly to the family to assist with their immediate and long-term needs.”

By Lunchtime on Wednesday, the GoFundMe has raised $4,900 out of its target.
