Elon Musk lashes out, FBI on hunt after Molotov cocktails used to firebomb Tesla’s in Las Vegas
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has condemned the torching of Tesla cars in the US as domestic terrorism after a group of the electric vehicles were allegedly firebombed in Las Vegas.
Video of fire spreading from vehicle to vehicle has been circulating on social media with the billionaire taking to X to expose the threats being made against his company.
The FBI is investigating the major incident after Molotov cocktails were used to ignite at least five vehicles in a car dealership in Nevada.
Local police reports say a suspect who was seen dressed in all black threw the firebombs onto the cars before fleeing
Reports confirmed that the word “resist” had been painted on the door of the facility, with three gunshots also fired into the vehicles.
Musk wrote on X after the incident, “This level of violence is insane and deeply wrong.”
“Tesla just makes electric cars and has done nothing to deserve these evil attacks.
“Terrorism,” he added in another post.
At a press conference about the incident, Assistant Sheriff Dori Koren said police had increased their coverage of Tesla dealerships.
Without confirming the motivation for the attacks, he confirmed the actions “had some of the hallmarks of a potential political agenda”.
The FBI released a statement confirming similar attacks had been reported across the United States and it was gathering information to determine if they were coordinated.
“The FBI and ATF are working with the Kansas City, MO Police Department to investigate an overnight incident in which Cyber Trucks at a Tesla Dealership in south Kansas City were damaged,”
“Similar incidents have occurred in several states and the FBI and ATF are coordinating with federal, state, and local law enforcement partners to gather information.”
The Tesla company has been the target of protests and attacks since Elon Musk took up his new role as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) for Donald Trump.
Musk has since fired thousands of government workers in a concerted effort to tighten the government’s purse strings by decreasing the workforce’s size.
In January, Matthew Livelsberger died inside a Tesla cybertruck packed with explosives before it burst into flames outside US president-elect Donald Trump’s Las Vegas hotel.
At the time Elon Musk claimed the cybertruck explosion was likely an “act of terror” and questioned whether it could be linked to a terror attack in New Orleans that happened hours earlier.
In a post on X, the close confidant of president-elect Donald Trump wrote that it had been confirmed the explosion was not caused by a fault of the cybertruck.
“We have now confirmed that the explosion was caused by very large fireworks and/or a bomb carried in the bed of the rented Cybertruck and is unrelated to the vehicle itself. All vehicle telemetry was positive at the time of the explosion,” he wrote.
In a subsequent post, he wrote: “Appears likely to be an act of terrorism. Both this Cybertruck and the F-150 suicide bomb in New Orleans were rented from Turo. Perhaps they are linked in some way.”
