A combined fleet made up of five division 2 yachts and a single entrant from division 1 competed in a flying start harbour course race held in perfect sailing weather with an eight-knot easterly that picked up towards the latter stages on Saturday.

Brett Hawker skippering Jessie James was quickly away as was veteran skipper Chris Oldham in Joker who proved to be the quickest of the division 2 boats and he wasn’t far behind the bigger boat.

Stephen Lee sporting a new mainsail on Flasheart was also moving well as he was having a great tussle with Stephen Brown in Mary Maitland with only seconds between them at times.

Further back, Mark McRae in Sicarius and Neil Worrell in Zuri were having their own match race especially on one spinnaker run.

Joker continued to do well with five on board as it stalked Jessie James throughout and went on to chase the big boat all the way to the finish line.

Hawker crossed first, but was relegated to fourth place on corrected time, and recorded fastest time in the combined fleet.

Joker completed the course in fine style to win both the combined fleet and division 2 in a faultless display.

Brown pipped Lee on the line and they shared the minor placings with Lee second in division 2 and third in the combined fleet with Brown second in the combined fleet and third in division 2.

Three Flying Fifteens competed in their flying start harbour course race and it was Indian file around the for much of the race.

Wayne North with a new crew on Frequent Flyer was the early leader until Simon Lucas surged to the front with FForever Young and stayed there for the duration.

Aileen Lucas in Crazy was trailing but not far off the pace.

Much of the race had FForever Young in the lead with Frequent Flyer in second and Crazy in third and that’s how they crossed the finish but Frequent Flyer took the honours on corrected time with FForever Young second and fastest and Crazy taking third place in a race that they all enjoyed.
