Australian Red Cross Lifeblood is calling on 100 good eggs to donate blood at the Bunbury centre.

The Bunbury Blood Donor Centre needs more blood, in particular more O negative donors, to bolster supplies for cancer, road trauma and other patients this Easter.

Lifeblood spokeswoman Jessica Willet said Easter was one of the most challenging times of the year to collect blood and plasma.

“We traditionally see less donors at Easter, as many people take a well-earned holiday,” Ms Willet said.

She said local residents were encouraged to spare just an of hour of their time to give blood before, during or immediately after Easter.

A component of blood called platelets has a short shelf life, so it’s important that blood is donated throughout the Easter long weekend.

“We’re asking donors to book a donation at our Bunbury Donor Centre on Thursday, April 1 or Monday, April 5 when donations are needed most.”
