South West Social Riders Club trek from Collie to Bunbury’s Intown Centre for 10th anniversary Blanket Ride

A group of more than 50 South West motorcycle riders have given back to the community, donating much needed items ahead of the cooler months.

The South West Social Riders Club made the trip from Collie to Bunbury’s Intown Centre for its Blanket Ride, with the trek marking the initiative’s 10th anniversary.

Centre chairman David Bailey took part in the ride and said it was a great day out.

“As usual, the club have done a wonderful job in sourcing blankets and they also gave us some sleeping blankets, cash and gift cards able to be used in shopping centres and supermarkets,” he said.

About 100 blankets were donated as part of the ride, which the Intown Centre has shared with other not-for-profit groups in the South West.

Mr Bailey said the blankets would be a “wonderful addition” for those who received them.

“These blankets are not just going to rough sleepers,” he said.

“As we are seeing more and more people struggling with the cost of living and shortage of housing, there are couch surfers and people living in their cars, and these blankets are all going to be very useful.”

With this year marking a decade of the Blanket Run, Mr Bailey highlighted the ride as a great example of the community working for the greater good.

“It’s about people getting involved and working together to deal with problems that we face,” he said.
