Push for new Bunbury radio station

Bunbury Herald

Bunbury residents are being encouraged to fill out an online survey and voice their opinions on a proposed community radio station.

The station, headed by Bunbury city councillor Judy Jones and experienced former station manager Graham Harvey, will be based at Newton Moore Senior High School and aims to launch midway through 2013.

“The survey is the first of a number we’ll put up in an attempt to identify exactly what Bunbury would like from a community radio station, ” Cr Jones said.

“Harvey, Augusta and Collie are all smaller towns than Bunbury and have successful community stations.

“So far we’ve tentatively identified our target audiences as mature adults to seniors and plan on playing a mix of popular contemporary music from the 1960s until today.”

The station hopes to launch at the end of June, once it is provided with an FM channel.

“At the moment, GWN7’s analogue signal is using most of the available spectrum but it is set to shut off in June, ” Mr Harvey said.

“At that stage the Australian Communication and Media Authority will review what’s available and we’ll hopefully be assigned a channel.”
