Kalgoorlie Amateur Swimming Club’s rich vein of form at major competitions extended to last weekend’s WA country pennants in Mandurah, which yielded 28 gold medals among an overall haul of 104.

Local swimmers collected 77 medals in B-grade — 20 gold, 21 silver and 36 bronze — and in D-grade a return of 27 medals comprised eight gold, 13 silver and six bronze.

It lifted the KASC to second place in the overall B-grade standings behind Peel, who are traditionally an A-grade team.

The club’s D-grade team were fifth, among seven teams.

On an individual level, Dylan De Beer won gold medals across his four events and set a new record of 37.99 seconds in the boys’ B-grade 11 and under 50m backstroke.

He eclipsed the old mark of 38.32 seconds.

Also in B-grade, Peridot Stainforth won three gold and a silver across four races before also competing in eight relays, of which four medalled.

Landon Burditt claimed two gold medals and two silver and Grace Carter capped off a big weekend with three silver and one bronze.

In D-grade, Vincent Thomas-Tamakaha won three gold medals and a bronze in four races before also claiming a relay bronze.

His weekend was defined by a record-breaking swim of 45.02 seconds in the boys’ 8-9 50m butterfly.

Strong contributions were also turned in by Tyler Schilg (two gold; two silver; relay bronze), Arlie Dehne (one gold; one silver; one bronze; two relay silver); Jackson van den Elzen (two gold; one silver; two relay silver), and Catherine Samuels (two silver; one bronze).

Aria Broughton, Dehne, Lily Ngatokorua and Coen Burditt were formally recognised on the MySwim platform for clocking personal bests in each of their four events, with Dylan De Beer and Zali Slade honoured with Goldfields Region rising star awards.

“We’re very proud of all their achievements and had a wonderfully supportive group of parents, and others, who made the trip,” club president Sharon Greber said.
