City of Bunbury and WA Minister for Sport and Recreation David Templeman open $5.8 million Hay Park Pavilion

A brand new multi-million-dollar pavilion at one of Bunbury’s main sporting precincts has officially swung its doors open. The $5.8 million Hay Park Sport Pavilion was opened on Wednesday by Minister for Sport and Recreation David Templeman, who was joined by Bunbury City Council members and staff and with Bunbury MLA Don Punch. The facility will service a range of senior and junior soccer, cricket, rugby and athletics clubs in Bunbury and includes four changerooms, a function space, kitchen, public toilets and other amenities. Works also included a new car park, first aid space, umpires’ room and new drinking fountains. Construction of the pavilion was completed in June after first being touted in the City of Bunbury Hay Park Master Plan in 2015, with some clubs already utilising the new space. City of Bunbury Mayor Jaysen Miguel said the facility would provide a great home for local clubs. “On Wednesday we officially opened the Hay Park north pavilion which has been operating for the last few months with a number of the local sporting codes using it,” he said. “It is a great facility, it still has some minor works to be finished off unfortunately with the stage we are at due to COVID and getting materials. “But it is in full use now, with a number of clubs using it. “It is going to get plenty of use and it was great to finally open that with Minister Templeman.” The project came after $4m from the State Government’s Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries funding, with the remaining $1.8m from the City of Bunbury.
