City of Bunbury says intersection connecting Haley and Prinsep streets and Carmody Place will undergo facelift

One of the Bunbury CBD’s busiest roundabouts is set for a facelift as the City works to create a more attractive and welcoming area. The City of Bunbury announced on Wednesday that the intersection and roundabout which connected Haley Street, Prinsep Street and Carmody Place would undergo a facelift. Work at the popular entry point to Bunbury’s CBD will start next week following feedback from stakeholders and the wider community and the designs have now been finalised within the project scope and budget. The City said it engaged GHD Woodhead last year to develop a detailed design for the area, with the aim of creating another attractive entrance into the CBD. “The project will provide new streetscape and road layout to enhance the appeal of the area, make it safer for the community and provide better access to the nearby businesses and shopping precinct,” the City said. “New street trees will be planted in the first stage of the project, creating a green avenue of trees combined with an understorey of native species supported by a water sensitive urban design. “There will also be new paving and new street furniture added in key locations.” The City said the nature of the work would mean disruptions in the area and advised the community to expect delays and seek an alternative route where possible. It was understood there would be intermittent closures as a result and traffic management would be in place. The City said staff would be managing the project with the support of local sub-contractors and had been visiting businesses in recent weeks to advise them of the works schedule. The initial works are aimed to be completed prior to the busy Christmas trading period, lessening the impact on businesses.
